EnergyConnect to partner with SecureEnergy
October 15, 2020
MBB is excited to announce a significant milestone for project EnergyConnect.
TransGrid has recently concluded the tender process, with the announcement of a nominated contractor to deliver a new 700km high voltage interconnector between the power grids of South Australia and New South Wales.
Following a year-long competitive tender process, SecureEnergy, a joint venture between Spanish company Elecnor and Clough Australia, was selected as the nominated contractor. Their partnership brings together international high voltage experience and domestic large-scale project delivery experience.
Subject to approval by the Australian Energy Regulator, EnergyConnect will take approximately three years to complete and will allow the free flow of electricity between NSW and SA for the first time in Australia’s history – plugging a gap in Australia’s energy system. In addition, it will allow increased capacity for renewable generation and significantly improve reliability in both SA and regional NSW.
EnergyConnect was recently recognised by the Federal Government as a critical project to fast track Australia’s recovery from the COVID-19 recession. It forms part of the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) 2020 Integrated System Plan for the National Electricity Market, which identifies EnergyConnect as an actionable project to augment the Australian transmission grid.
MBB Group was appointed by TransGrid to provide strategic, commercial, transaction and technical management services during the development and procurement phases for EnergyConnect.
MBB supported TransGrid in establishing the commercial framework, procurement model and suite of procurement documentation within the Major Projects portfolio and were instrumental in the development of the overarching Project Implementation Plan, project delivery strategy, procurement model and EPC Contractor tender process. To meet TransGrid’s project timetable, MBB executed a complex strategy, running procurement in parallel to Environmental Approvals.
Congratulations to SecureEnergy and to the TransGrid and MBB teams for achieving this significant project milestone.
